I have received another complaint about the brazed rod axis rod breaking (3 so far). Because of this - we are going to be proactive as to prevent a disastrous Halloween for you with our rod breaking. Effective immediately, for those that purchased the kit(s) a replacement rod(s) will be mailed out to you at no charge. I will be getting these out in the mail next week. This will be for 337 kits sold during the period of April 22 - June 10, 2008.
Upon the first complaint, we pulled 20 from stock and tested them to mimic the complaint (how they broke it). Of the 20, 1 failed. Immediately we went into re-design mode and came up with a better axis rod configuration; no welding, parts made from solid stock, and all parts were 100% inspected using NIST standard calibrated tooling. Destructive testing was performed by an outside lab to ensure product will stand up to the abuse and meet our quality standards.
And to make up for the down time this brought on and for those that will need to replace the rod, I am going to be offering you (those that have purchased kit(s) from me) a discount of 50% for up to two kits or components. You will need to supply me with your original invoice number for this discount. I will be handling these sales. You can contact me at support at graveyardmadness dot com for more information.
And last but not least, and for all the troubles this has brought, we will be holding a drawing for one complete talking Bucky and one complete talking Lindberg on August 2, 2008. This includes the SSC-32 controller card, USB to serial adapter, cables, wiring loom, a working and balance skull, and power supply. You will need to have the program to make it run. This drawing will only apply to those folks that have purchased GYM kits during the period of April 22 - June 10. Only one winner per household. The bucky is valued at $425 and the lindberg $365.
For those that received rejected rods, you will have the option of purchasing the new rod configuration for $8.50. You will not be eligible for the drawing or discount.
I want to apologize for this and greater quality measures have been put in place to ensure this does not happen again.
Respectfully,
Joel / GYM Ghost

Now that's what I call good, I mean great, service. A class act all the way.
I have already received and installed one of the redesigned parts and I must say that it was a good redesign. It's definitely a high quality product.

I've read that your kits are now only available thru RBC. Will the new redesigned axis rods be available there as well? I do not need the entire kit as I am able to get some partes locally.

Yes. The new redesigned rods will be included. I am working with RBC with getting this move over to her. It will be about another week. In the mean, let me know what you need and I will get it out.
Thanks

Thanks for the update on the rods. I will know better what I need after this weekend. I'm headed down the local surplus shop now to see what they have available for parts on this project. I didn't find this thread until recently and missed out on the sale of kits you had over the last two months. I guess the main part I would be interested in for now would be the skull plates for the Lindberg. RBC has them and Capt. Jack is making them. In the big 100+ page book on the 3-axis skull, you noted that you were going to post a drawing or pdf of the skull plate layout. I was unable to locate it. Was it ever posted?

They are super easy to make. On the main 3 axis page, HalloweenBob posted a template. I think its around page 10.
Thanks for being proactive on the rods GG. Pretty cool on the contest too. Now if I can learn how to use VSA, I'll be on track.
