... then let my friend, Peter, inspire you:
SoCalHalloween
Just so you know the extent of Peter's work, the only thing in his display that he didn't build is the Bucky body that the skull is perched on. I have the good fortune of being Peter's friend and neighbor and helped him shoot the video that's on his site (for 2007) -- I can assure you that his work looks as good up close as it does on the video.
Peter's a pro (he directs TV and movies, and has done special FX for some big box office smashes) so he knows what he's doing. Notice, though, that his set is made from materials any of us can get: cardboard, foam, and paint!
I can't wait to see what 2008 is going to be.

One of his friends included his 2007 Haunt in his blog.

I loved this pirate display. I think I even posted a thread about it here. I was wondering how he got those long cardboard tubes. Are they for carpet?

There's a tiny mis-statement (probably not deliberate) on that blog: that gentleman did the conceptual drawings for Peter, but it was Peter and his team that did the actual construction of all the set pieces -- I was there so I know this to be true.

Your friend's display is actually the inspiration for my haunt this year. I'm very thankful he updated his website.

I agree this work is very impressive. Now I want to do something like this too.
