There had been a thread about these earlier with a picture from the Skull & Bone website. I just fell in love with the idea and decided that I HAD to make some.
These are my "prototypes", meaning that I bought the shortest piece of PVC that I could get to make one and decide if it was going to work for me. I've got $2.12 in each of these but know that I can make future ones cheaper (by buying longer PVC pieces, and the cost of the candle wax and caulk will be spread out over more than three candles). But, shoot, you can't hardly buy a pillar candle for less than $2!
I cut the PVC using a hacksaw. My PVC cutters wouldn't open wide enough to cut the 1 1/2" pipe. I bought a pack of these tea lights at Walgreens last year - 6 for $5. They have push buttons instead of switches so to turn them on I just have to have something long enough to reach the button. I used 100% silicone caulk to adhere the lights to the PVC. This way I can cut them back out if necessary (ie, when the batteries die!). Then I just poured white candle wax over them until I thought it looked good. It took me about 5 minutes to complete one of these. So easy! I'll be making more as soon as I can!

Thanks!
I just went to Walgreen's and bought more of the tea lights. I got the last three packages they had. May have to hit up the other locations. My husband seems to think that having 25 will be more than enough, though.

Can you show a view of the top? I want to make some but not sure how you did the top. I will have to check out our Walgreens, I haven't seen these there, although I did get some at Bealls' Outlet last year so have 6 to play with.

Very nice work, very realistic looking.
I don't want to just scare them... I want to mess them up for life!

Love em!!!!!!!!!!!! Rikki please show the top so we can get an idea of what we are looking at. Might want to make some myself. How do you think they would look in black. I can drip black wax instead and paint the pvc pipe black as well. I may even add a little black glitter to the paint, or maybe just a smidge at the top. What do you think. do you think that might work as well?? OOH Im definately going to try these. I'll wait till you post the pic of the top, if you can that is.
Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!

Thanks guys! I'm still in awe over how easy they were!
I can take a picture of the top tomorrow if it's needed (I left them at work) but I didn't do anything special. I just dripped the wax over the edges and, in the process, ended up coving the top of the tea light. I didn't fill up the remaining part of the tube - that way it would look more like a candle that had been burning for a bit. I just made sure that all of the inside of the PVC above the tea light got covered and that the top of the light was covered.
Spooki, I was thinking earlier about trying to do some black and red ones. I think they'd look great in different colors. That would definitely up the time and money involved, though.
