I got the idea today to start this thread so everyone could see that bad things can happen when you get creative...and that's a good thing. We learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others. Don't be afraid...post them up. I PROMISE I will post mine when I get to my home computer.

P.S. Hey Larry, if you think this thread is in the wrong place please move it accordingly. Thanks!

If you were to look in the "unfinished stuff" album link, you will see a frame for a huge pumpkin monster with me holding up a paper mache pumpkin. The frame became too heavy to support itself, and eventually slouched to a limp pile of 2x4's. I sacrificed that wood yesterday and it is now part of a coffin......fitting, huh?

I could continue typing about this subject for the next 3 days LOL. One of the major mistakes I made but now I beat it was using 1/2 in pvc in the full 10 ft length to build my maze....what a disaster but I learned the I can still use the 1/2 in pvc but I now have supports at minimum every 3 ft. I still havent found a way to beat the wind and rain except maintenance everyday.

How about some broom sticks epoxied into a t-fitting. You can sharpen the ends and drive them into the ground. If you need a support every 3 ft., you could probably get away with only "staking" every 9ft or so. Broom sticks are pretty cheap, and you could probably get a deal from Home Depot on damaged ones.

I promised some pics, so here they are. It was supposed to be an antiqued oval picture frame. I wanted to prove you could make one out of scrap wood. It was supposed to be a tutorial.

    It started out good.

    Rough outline

Then things turned bad. This is only one bad edge out of many

I failed to consider how rough the jig saw would be on the biscuited joins. I think it might have been better if I had a band saw or at least a very fine blade. Luckily I have a wood burning stove, so this project will not go to waste

That would have worked if you joined the pieces after cutting instead of before. But I bet you already know that.
