Maybe a railroad conductor with a train sound effect.

I love the light. When I saw it, my first thought was "grave digger", but "conductor" is far more original. How about a combination of conductor AND your silhouette idea?

Here's a thought...
There are countless legends (mostly in the U.S.) of rail lines 'haunted' by phantom conductors who lost their lives while on duty. Funny enough, most of the stories no matter the location involve the 'victim' falling between railcars and being decapitated. The sightings are usually that of a phantom ball of light (the lantern) floating around or waving back and forth down the tracks supposedly the ghost of the conductor still searching for his severed head! :O)
I'd personally use that angle for inspiration and maybe have a headless conductor (in uniform of course) holding or waving the lantern. Maybe even create some tracks out of woods or something.
Again, just a thought!

Yea nice dark Goodwill suit with vest. Won't need a coductors hat being headless. PVC frame, wiper motor for arm movement. Low train yard backgrond sounds. Then BAM a nice loud train horn to scare the dickens out the TOT's. I like it thanks.

Scooby Doo??
Hmm, rnrkid, you maybe right... I'll have to check with my kids on that! LOL
I had read a few of those "Haunted North America" type books and found there to be a number of legends that all seemed to be that exact same story. That's where I got the idea from.
guitarist155, I hear what you're saying about 1 prop setting the scene!
bayou reaper, I like your idea with the train's sound effects, good luck with that one! It sounds like you have the makings of a great (and somewhat original) scene!"Look Honey, they have... uhm... 'Dead People' in the backyard!"
"Your body's dying. Pay no attention, it happens to all of us!"
