I want to have fog coming out of a foam toe pincher coffin as part of a 2 minute show. I am going to motorize the lid so it moves up and down slowly about an inch to allow the fog inside to pour out. The coffin will be inside a horse drawn hearse with the back doors open but the sides have plexi-glass.
I'm wondering if I can find a tiny fog machine that doesn't produce much fog or of there is a simpler way with a cheap fogger? Any ideas?

Were you worried about the fog filling the entire back of the hearse? Is that why you want only a little amount of fog coming out? Because you could just make a fog chiller inside the coffin, which would slow the fog down, and make it look like it is pouring out of the coffin. When it gets out of the coffin, the fog would go to the bottom of the hearse's chamber, not blocking the view of the coffin from outside.

Yea, I didn't want a fog filled hearse so that no one could see the coffin. The effect I am going for is more subtle. Mainly a green glowing light coming out of the coffin with a bit of smoke/fog flowing from the cracks and lid when open. Just enough so it disapates out the back and you can still see the coffin. Somthing like fake smoke from a fire that never gets too overwelming.
It''s a homemade hearse so I could pipe the fog from underneath and vent it back down again?

what if you just make part of the floor solid, but either drill holes or cut the shape of a square out of the floor and cover it with fabric on the inside, then attach a fan to the bottom of the hearse against the holes (on the outside) that sucks air and fog from inside the hearse and blows it out of the hearse? I dont know if that would work. But I dont know of a fogger that produces only a small amount of fog.

get the most inexpensive fog machine you can ( or expensive
) and take the remote apart and install a relay on the switch contacts then attach the relay to the timer you are using to trigger the prop and set the timer to only fire the fog machine for a short time when the coffin opens.
or get a fogger with a timer, this will give you short bursts of fog but it wouldn't be in-time with the prop opening like the first setup."at last, my arm is complete"

that is an amazing fogger, they are used alot in movie and theatrical productions but last time i checked it was running around $1200 and still put out quite a large amount of fog.

I know Froggys has a quick dissipating fog, that might work

What about one of those $25 "mist makers" that you drop in a bowl of water? I've never seen one in action but maybe it would work for you?

Misters don't put out much mist and it will condence on surfaces and wet things down rather quickly. I think you might want to experiment with your average el cheapo 400W fogger from Wally-World. They don't produce as much fog as you may think, and if you use a timer you can control how much fog is in the casket. Most timers can do very short burts (just a couple of seconds) spaced out by several minutes. It just might work for you.
