I need a backdrop for a scene that needs to be about 20-25 feet long and probably at least 6-8 feet high. I was looking at buying one at Shindigz but it's kind of costly. I was thinking maybe I could use a tarp (to be painted on), or maybe some sort of cloth. I'm no artist, but I'm no Rockafeller either. It would be painted to resemble a desert scene. Should I use some sort of board instead? Styrofoam or pegboard or something? Any suggestions appreciated.

To keep the cost down, go with tarps or plastic table cloth. You don't have to be an artist to make it look good. Do a basic background, then spruce it up with some well placed lighting and 3D add-ons. What specific scence are you going for? Pirate?

Tarps are a good choice, also plastic sheeting. It comes in many different sizes and is pretty cheap.

How about Scene Setters. They come in rolls that are 23 foot long and 8 foot tall, so they will cover 2 average walls completely. They can be taped to plywood or something if you need a solid wall.

    Desert theme scene setters

Thanks everybody. If I don't go with a scene setter then I'll probably use a tarp. The add-on suggestion is great idea...I hadn't thought of that.

    Have you thought about Rasterbator.

The Sect of Homokaasu - The Rasterbator

Upload an image, print the resulting multi-page pdf file and assemble the pages into a poster up to 20 meters in size. Uses a lot of ink though.

    BooBerrie,

is this mural/backdrop going to be flowing or up against a hard surface like plywood?

I know this program) Old good stuff. Too old I think and there are many programs, which produces posters with better quality now. For example, I use this poster maker and I find it more powerful, than Rasterbator.

You're probably right, Nanba. It has been several years since I heard of this service. It is sometimes hard to keep up with technology.
