I think what they were doing was screwing the milk crates together stacked as high as you want the columns, then they were covering them with pink foam sheets. and would cut stone or brick patterns in the foam .paint them with latex paint and then would spray paint effects on them. Hope this has helped Hugs

I don't have pic of any but if you do a search back through the threads you might find some pictures , I have a friend on another forum that is making his this way.
and I Have a Daughter who will end up missing all her crates too. LOL
I use haven't had the time to start mine yet. But what I was going to do was buy the sheet of 4x8 faux brick paneling that you can buy at Lowe's or Home Depot in the paneling department to make mine and use the milk crates as a structure.

I found an alternative to wood as well....

Metal studs from your home depot. A bit cheaper then wood, saves the trees and A HELL OF A LOT LIGHTER! Generally used to build walls and frame ceilings bulk heads

With enough practice and careful cutting you can form metal studs into about anything

Columns are easy, 4 uprights two square bases! With a couple uprights you have a sturdy frame that is light and ready for foam.

There are special "Steel Stud Screws" I advise ONLY using these to hold them together because of their size and thread pattern with the self drilling head aswell. I call them LBF's "Little Black F%*$#@!" for short

    Giver a whirl !

Hi KC: I know what you mean about the "LBF" oh don't forget you may want to cut a stud to run on a slant to help hold the frame square One for each side also will give you something to attach the foam to.. But you are right its a lot lighter.

The milk crates work GREAT! Super light for storage! so, in my profile album, you'll see the cemetary gates that are going on 8 years now, very little maintenence needed too! Chunks of 2" foam "glued" with minimal expanding foam, using excess as mortar fill. A few coats of textuerized latex paint and voila! Add a little moss, pumpkin patch vines, song, dance, seltzer in the pants, etc. to dress them up. BUT, because they are so light, they need anchoring, which I solve by using 3' lengths of rebar hammered 1/2 way into the ground, 2 per column, and zip strip them to the inside of the columns. I used the headboard of a day bed and a 1" 4x10 board for the arch to stabilize the two columns and tie them together.
