I need help! I am "building" a pirate ship around the back of my home and want to add a kraken/gaint octopus.
I don't have the slightest idea how I would accomplish this. I was thinking making a frame out of chicken wire and monster mudding it, but I'm afraid it will be so heavy that the demolition would be horrible.
I would love to hear an ideas! I could just do the tentacles, but why not go for it?
Here is my bad photoshop make-up of my pirate ship scene. It will give you some proportion to what I'm looking to do.
Thanks!

No matter what you make it out of, destruction and disposal of any prop that size will be a nightmare..The easiest cheapest way is to mache it, but not good for weather if you don't seal it.

What if you shaped it out of chicken wire and covered it with some type of cheap material (plastic rolls, old bed sheets, etc.)? Maybe put down a base layer of black plastic and then put old white bed sheets over that so you can paint it and get the look that you want.

I love the black plastic idea. My pirate ship facade is going to be black sheeting, so I'm sure I'll have a ton left over.
Here is my house without the ship. I'm using the house as structure. I was thinking of staking the bottom of the ship in the ground.
What do people usually put on the ground level? Rocks? Sharks? lol

I'm actually going to be working on the same thing for my pirate ship. Since you never actually saw the Kracken's body I was just going to have the tentacles sticking up. I was thinking that I could use tomato cages for the general frame. I'm going to use fiberglass so I would wrap the cages in fabric, put on the resin and then add fiberglass mesh to the inside for strength. But you could probably just use fabric. You can add suckers to it and paint it, plus it will be light weight. Hmm, maybe I’ll skip the fiberglass part myself….

I'd definitely go for just the tentacles. You never really saw the body, just the tentacles, and they would be lots easier to build and tear down. Sometimes just the suggestion of a thing is really more effective than seeing the thing itself. Great idea, pumpkinprincess, when you first posted pics of your home, I thought...hmmm, that back deck would make a great pirate ship! Good luck!
