I've been interested in monster mud since a recent post with a similar prop. I'm trying to understand a little more about monster mud, so if I'm wrong, forgive me.

Did you just form your prop and cover it with material (looks like burlap maybe?) and then coat it with the monster mud? Is the monster mud waterproof or do you have to protect it with anything?

I'm absolutely loving the effect of this. Looking forward to more pics.

Monster mud is used by dipping the cloth into it removing the excess and then draping and shaping over a frame. It is not waterproof you need to put a coat of waterproofer on it.

Very cool. I'm hoping to have time to do a "guardian" this year. One of those holding a fake flame or a lantern.

I am so looking forward to doing a monster mud prop. But first I need to find a place to store the thing when I am done. *sigh* We looked at a HUGE storage building/workshop thing at Home Depot last week. 2 stories, windows, don't know how many square feet, just HUGE. Would be perfect for a workshop/storage facility. Now I'm working on selling the idea to the hubby.

Sorry, got a little off topic. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, I can't wait to do a monster mud project....

That's coming along great. What did you use for an armature under there, if you don't mind my asking?
