hm.... well, a prison with zombies is a tad unusual, maybe start with a backstory of an eccentric who was obsessed with the gruesome and paranormal, and turn your prison into a place that housed his 'collection'.

You can then pepper the story with tales of how each specimen was obtain and the unfortunate accounts of what happened to some of his employees, friends and family members... maybe one or two of them went so insane that he kept them as part of the collection.

Oh, and don't forget to include a gruesome end, maybe he too is now a feature of his own collection.

Your radio spots could be news stories about the disappearance of the eccentric, and how the investigating authorities have uncovered the collection, chuck in an overly arrogant psychiatrist who feels that many of the 'imprisoned victims' can be rehabilitated and returned to society.....

You can really play on the twists and leave people guessing who is the real bad guy and who are the victims, was the eccentric a monster himself or someone keeping monsters off the streets, was the sticky end he came to poetic justice..... and what about the psychiatrist, his he a deluded do-gooder, or does he have an agenda that involves releasing the monsters back on the streets

    nOrTHeRn TouCh ,

So, you have a run down prison with zombies and horror characters(very kool, you've got an inventive mind already!)...Will there be actors/props both?

If you have actors you can make them stalk the people as they go on a quest...Maybe the prison is a portal for lost souls and evil and the only way the people can get out/close the portal is to find the skeleton key to unlock all the jail cell blocks. By doing so they will release the spirits of those who haunt their perpetual prison. As long as the doors stay closed though the place is perpetual prison for those who lived and still do their time in death. However you want to hid the key is up to you. Make it easy or hard. (You can make them look for it in a haystack if you like.)

If the group can't find the key along the way, you can make them do time in solitary confinement and lock each of them up in one of the cells you make into dark rooms. (I'm stealing this idea from Alcatraz, that was totally creepy to feel so isolated in total darkness!) You could also make a loud banging sound, growing, or EVP noises of the trapped souls so that they feel they failed to free them.(and have now become one of them) . Then when they have been there for a minute or two, let them out of your haunt. But they get no prize. The people who find the key should get something, even if it's just something cheap like a glow bracelet. (Note, most people don't like to fail or think they've been beat, and if they feel this way, they might pay to go through your haunt again, maybe the second time can be for half the price or something....

I think the most memorable haunt stories are ones which tell a story but also require people to actively participate in the haunt... plus I think they'll pay more attention to all the detail and hard work that you put into your haunt if they're looking for something hidden.

The best story you can tell doesn't necessarily need to be elaborate. If you want to make people pay attention the best way is to require their participation and make them suffer consequences if they fail....wah ha ha !

    Hope that helps you!

WoW guyz those are both great ideas!!!! You guyz really have great imaginations....Now I have to figure out how I am going to write these ideas into a story....But all keep thinking and see what other ideas I can before I start....I also thought it would be cool if I could get a few of the forum members together to collaborate on a story which I could give credit back to the Halloween Forum members for the help....
