Thanks to Larry's hard work and upgrades I uploaded some photos of a castle facade I made for Halloween 2007. I was very pleased with the results. Please give me your comments and any questions you may have.

Here is a link to the new album - Halloween Forum - jbrimaco's Album: Facade

Very nice. How did you get the distressed look on the foam? I used a heat gun and it gave a few wavy distortions, but yours looks likes more rough hewn stone. Also, what kind of fasteners did you use to secure the foam board to the frame? I need to rework my facade this year and like the looks of yours.

    Jdubbya,
I love the look of yours and especially the gargoyle!
First off - I also used a heat gun but discovered that any smaller holes would melt out larger as the heat was applied.

Then you do the distressed look. I did the water and spray paint technique.

First I painted the styrofoam with grey latex paint and let it dry. Then I spray water on an area I want to distress. Before the water all dries I spray it with flat black spray paint. Then after about 30 seconds I spray it with water again. The spray paint will creat runs and get into all the holes. I normally start at the top of the wall and work my way down. The last thing I added the white paint between the rocks.

Fasteners are drywall screws with really large flat washers. I painted those so you can't see them.

    Good luck

    RookieSpooker,
Thank you. The Skull was scored at Party America on clearance for 50% off after Halloween 2006. I guess it is true - good things come to those that wait!

I was looking at your facade thinking to myself that would be perfect to use for my porch and make it look like a mausoleum to frame my FCG. Then I thought about the storage issues and said no way, my husband would kill me if I tried to fit anything else in our garage. Then you mentioned you would be dismantling it for storage and that idea sprung new possibilities. I think I'll try that next year, thanks for the inspiration and great idea for storage.
