    Howdy

Will the SSC-32 Servo Controller operate relays by itself or do you need something else to go with it?
If something else is needed, is there something inexpensive and where do you get it?

    Thank you

In relay mode (SSC32 Relay in VSA) , the SSC-32 outputs a TTL Hi or Low (On/Off) that can be used to operate an SSR (solid state relay) directly. SSRs are for switching AC powered devices on/off such as spots or floods.

    10A@250VAC SOLID STATE RELAY-USED-MPJA, Inc.

To use a normal relay you'll need a simple transistor or mosfet circuit in between with a diode across the coil to prevent kick back from the coil. There are several of these mentioned in the Lynxmotion support forums.

to run this board with the servos you will need a power supply. and a free down load of a software program either Audicity or vsa software/

    • I bought an RC-4 and 4 solid state relaysfrom EFX TEK at hauntcon 3 years ago, this is the first time I have had a chance to try to use them. they were out of prop 1 controllers so I don’t have one. I am trying to run a Lab scene using VSA, and Helmsman. I need to run some relays and was wanting to make a project box with servos on cat5 and relays on outlet plugs can I use the RC-4 off of the SSC-32 servo controller? If so how do I hook it up? do I have to write an load some code or can helmsman handle it?. do yall know any good how How tos on this. I am new to animation, servos and relays so start from the beginning, animation for the animation impaired. thanks

Hey Brett, if you're looking to run servos, LEDs, and relays, and don't yet have a controller, take a look at my Medusa DMX board. Here's a post about running relays with it, and another about using LEDs. It runs happily with VSA

The best value for money is the Relay board made by pimpmyprop.com

Bruce made these for me last year and I used 4 of them to control all my "relays" flawlessly for my pirate show.

I cannot say enough about these relay boards, they worked absolutely perfectly to control my cannons and other "relay" devices. For some reason very few people know about these secret treasures.

    http://www.pimpmyprop.com/RB4RelayBoardDetails.htm

You can control 4 relays with an SSC-32 card ... unlike the other systems that have 1 or 2, this has 4!!!

You can see the RB4 Relay controllers in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAe_joqlPMs
