this is my first pneumatic prop I have ever built I am still undecided on a triggering mechanism but i am leaning toward a motion sensor with a boo box, speakers and strobe light. I am going to put it under one of my cars in the driveway. what do you think? comments, suggestions ?

Maybe you can put the motion sensor far enough before the prop that nobody trips over it
Time how long it takes people to walk up past it and have it timmed so that it doesn't get in the way, for two reason , their safety (tripping hazard) and not wanting to see the prop get crushed!!- The Crypt Keeper

I think if you place it under your car, you should set it up in a place where kids will not likely walk in it's path. In other words, put your car on the side of the driveway (if applicable of course) where kids will likely walk within a few feet of it, but not right in it's path. You may want to consider putting it in your graveyard where no kids will come very close. I understand you want to get the scare factor from your prop, but you have to consider the possibility for injury and a litigious parent. Just a thought.
Great job on your first pneumatic prop! I can't wait until I can post a similar thread about my first pneumatic prop, but I think that day is still a little far off. Where did you get that huge spider by the way? I love it and have never seen one like it.

great looking spider, did you make it? It definitely would scare me jumping out like that- great job for a first pneumatic prop. Having campground haunts fort my main haunts, I dn't know how practical it would be . But I would love one some year. This year, working on other motors. Any way. again, great job. Would love a spider like that, even if it didn't jump out like that.
I have flying monkeys- and I'm not afraid to use them!

Florida, I love it. I was trying to come up with a way to make one "jump". I never even thought about having it move horizontaly. You just saved me a lot of time. How much stroke is that cylinder? Where did you get the spider?

I got the spider about five years ago at a local Halloween store in a mall,I have been looking for more ever since with no luck. the cylinder has 11'' stroke I got it off ebay for $12. originally I wanted it to jump too! but for my first pneumatic I just stuck to something simple. but i did come across this http://www.frightprops.com/frightpro...ct.asp?ID=0699 that I might try to make for next year. as for tripping over it there will be a partition/rope line or something keeping people from getting too close to where it pops out from.

thanks! I am working on a way to quiet it down with a rubber stopper and a exhaust muffler for the solenoid valve, we will see how that works
