I would say a wiper motor for the tricycle, but I have no idea how you would keep constant power to the motor if the trike is moving around in a big circle.

ToyGuy did one a while back. I was checking into it for my display... basically, wiper motor on the back wheel- looks pretty creepy. I prefer a slower moving motor, but it works great...

If you plan on doing something like the SAW puppet you could put batteries in the puppet. As to the track PVC would work to make the track you would be able to stake it down by putting using T's as connectors where the base of the T would go over a stake in the ground, would allow curves etc. Of course the tricycles rear wheels would need to be able to clear it. the all you would need to do is put a hook on the front fork that would keep the track between the wheel and the hook, that way as the tricycle moved around the track the front wheel would be forced to follow the curves in the track

I have a mororized tricycle that I made.
I used a wiper motor 2 gears and a chain to drive the rear wheels.
A lot of customizing of parts to get it workng.
I used a wireless remote control from a r/c car I had laying around to activate it.
It has a 6 volt battery from a riding kiddie car for power, that way it moves at the speed a child would normally ride it.
Now all I need to do is find a kids doll of the right size to fit on it.
I intend to have it sitting on my porch and when someone comes to the door, I will activate it remotely and have it move while the doll's eyes light up and it sings itsy bitsy spider.
That ought to be good for some laughs.

To better explain my post above (#5). The hook/guide is just a way to get the tricycle to follow the track and not to get caught on the T's of the track and also to turn the wheel to follow the track. It basically is just a H made from three half pieces of pipe in the form of a H, where each leg is a half piece of pipe as is the cross member

Thank you Julie.
This is also my first year at moving props.
I'm kind of experimenting right now and the tricycle was my first moving prop.
Hopefully I will learn more and do better before Halloween.
