I know it has been ages since I've posted on here, but my and I have been through alot lately with our daughter who turns 1 today. Those who know me on hauntspace know what is going on. Anyway, I am trying to make some molds of some skulls I have so I can cast a bunch of them in great stuff or plaster or anything really lol. I saw a tutorial on the net using liquid latex with a plaster mother mold. I was wondering if anyone had used Elmer's Latex Flooring Adhesive that is available at Walmart for the latex part of the mold. I bought a can of this for corpsing but I need a good 40+ skulls and the papier mache method is just not practical. Thanks![]()

Carpet adhesive stays tacky for a while from what I understand - and I would think flooring adhesive would too.. matter of fact, I know the stuff they used at my grandmothers house to glue down the parquet flooring stayed icky for a long time. I'd test a bit of it first, like on a scrap piece of wood or something, just smear it on and see how long it takes to dry before trying anything else with it.

Good idea. I'll try coating something with vaseline, applying the latex, and seeing what happens. If it fails, no biggie, I am getting silicone from Wal-Mart today also. I have the tutorial for that somewhere (I think).

Go to smooth-ons website...order the trial size of dragon skin. It is enough to make a mold of a slightly larger than life skull. This stuff is super flexable and I have csat several skulls with great stuff as well as 2 part 3lb density foam use no release agent and they turn out great.
Just my 2 cents

I can't seem to find the tutorial, but I remember it used the silicone from wal-mart and a caulking gun. You cover the skull with the silicone and then make a plaster mother mold. I have been searching for RTV locally, but can't find it...what stores carry it?

vaseline for both of them
I did a little experiment last night (because I lost the tutorial) and it seemes to work great. I took the white silicone and my caulking gun and spread a thin layer of vaseline on a foam hand I got from a Bog of Bones at Big Lots last year. I put dab of silicone on a gloved finger and pressed it into the cracks of the hand. After the cracks were filled, I ran a thin layer of silicone over the entire thing, making sure everything was covered. I peeled it off this morning and if held it's shape while remaining flexible. Today I will try to do an entire skull and then do the plaster mother mold tomorrow. I will upload pics so you guys can see what it looks like. If anyone can find the original tutorial, can you please post a link here?
