I have to think that there's an opening beneath the bed that goes down a couple of feet and the person that's beneath the bed assists the actor by pulling her under to some degree. Pretty cool video.

Yeah i would assume the same thing.....
They possibly even have a "table" or "slider" that she gets on to so she doesen't get a rough carpet rash
definitely a good effect!
At first i thought the carpet was maybe a treadmill but you can see she just falls and gets pulled under, the carpet probably also has a fair bit of carpeting and she might even be wearing knee pads, I'd imagine falling like that on your knees after a while would hurt A LOT!- The Crypt Keeper

Amen on the knees. But still a fear of a lot of ours as a kid. So really good effect to try to duplicate.
Probably work better with a taller bed in my OP.

I thought it was a treadmill at first too, but I noticed her feet lift up as soon as something grabs her. I wonder how easily this could be duplicated with a treadmill setup? Of course the actor would have to have a safety button that must be pressed the entire time... so if something goes wrong, all she has to do is let go of the button for the thing to turn off.

What a great idea, really nice effect! If you watch closely you can clearly see that someone grabs her ankle and pulls her in. There may be a hole under the bed but that would require the entire room to be built up so I seriously doubt it. Seems to me that there is an opening in the wall that the bed sits against.
A treadmill would be very hard to do. Again building up the entire floor, the possibility of people walking onto it, the expense. In the end I doubt it would be as good an effect as this. The fear is being pulled under the bed by some sort of monster, having one actor pull another under a bed is the best reproduction of this. I don't see a way to improve this or make it easier mechanically. Sometimes the easiest way is the best way.

I don't think its a space under the bed - I think that there is a space where the bed meets the wall, and they just pull her through - passing under the bed and out of the wall to the behind the wall area.
That actually didn't scare me - to much pretty, pretty princess decor to be scary. i wouldn't actually use such pastel colors because it robs the effect of it's sinister aspects. I'd also do a red light under the bed when the girl gets pulled under.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002
