http://www.indymogul.com has tons of advice on those such props, prosthetics/makeup, homemade ballistic gels & molds, etc. for the small filmmaker. I've found a lot of what they show translates really well to haunter's "arts."

Also try http//:www.freemansupply.com A lot of good ideas for casting parts molds with different mediums (videos on basic urethane casting, silicone, etc.).

I looked on that sight and I couldn't find anything on mold making. Maybe my brain is fried trying to figure this out.

Try http://www.fxsupply.com/

Go to the catalogs page, there's tons of PDF's for different materials, and the PDF catalog has several instruction books and DVD's to buy.

The "molding and casting handbook" is GREAT.

Well, for FX supply, these are the places to start:

A list of instructions for various materials:

http://www.fxsupply.com/print_shop/p...p.html#catalog

And the price lists are here:

http://www.fxsupply.com/pl/pl.html

Sounds like you are most interested in the Instructional video:

http://www.fxsupply.com/pl/pl_docs/video.pdf

And Books:

http://www.fxsupply.com/pl/pl_docs/books.pdf

Then you would order by the instructions here:

http://www.fxsupply.com/connecting/order.html

But, for just simple molds, there's a bunch of online instructions free of charge.

This is the source for molding latex I use, and it has an instruction section:

http://www.delviesplastics.com/mold_builder.htm

The first tutorial I used to start making skulls is here:

http://wolfstone.halloweenhost.com/C...terSkulls.html

I since bought the mold makers handbook from FXSupply above.

I use the same general method there for a number of different molds now, though I've refined it a bit, and get more details from my molds, have exact dry times between layers, and a whole different coloring methodology.

And, my son is going to be making some small molds for a school project under my guidance, and casting them in both resin and plaster. I would be willing to do a detailed step by step for you if you're still uncomfortable. (since it's much easier to do a step by step and get the pictures when it's not your hands getting all ookie) I will also be making molds of the Lindberg skull once mine arrives and could get a bunch of pics from that process to show you larger ones. Might even be convinced to make a 2 piece mold.

UnOrthodOx - you are a God send. Thanks so much. Do you only make skulls or do you make anything else? I would love any tutorials you could supply, that would be great. Plus I'm sure other members might enjoy your wealth of knowladge

Well, I mostly make skulls. LOTS of them. You can see some pics via the link in my sig, since I can't seem to get em to show up here.

I had some demon skulls I added some clay horns to the skull, then made a mold, then cast, but scrapped the idea when I decided not to do that area, so sold those skulls (still have the mold though).

I've also cast a couple little trinkets for the kids as a test bed for different ideas, and am going to be doing some long bones this summer.

But, only have experience with latex molds (I'm not counting the clay molds from back in metals shop), and only using plaster and casting resins (again, not counting the aluminum or copper from metals shop)

Will get some tutorials up as soon as my stuff comes in the mail.
