Ok, I was thinking about all these odd ways to make fake fire when making the real thing is apparently a whole lot easier.

I've got this great green fire now, my only problem is it doesn't burn well in the tiki torches. Out in the open it looks incredible though.

I'm going to test a few wick types and see how that turns out. Walmart also has a open top tiki type torch. It's metal and is just fuel dumped into the top and it's allowed to burn. I didn't look at it too closely but I plan on stopping by wally world tomorrow for a closer look

Here's the pics of what I've got so far.

halinar, that looks really cool, what fuel is it that you're burning? If you wanted fake green fire, you could just change out the orange silk/satin material in those fake flame torches for a green silky fabric. The light would be bright enough to show off the green "flames" just as good as the orange. Or any other color that you wanted.

Burning denatured alcohol as the fuel source. The good thing with that is it burns really cool (for fire). I was able to reach in and adjust the wick while it was going as long as I moved quick enough.

I've wanted to play with colored fire for a while now. I had to test it out in my flaming juggling balls also and it looks sweet there also.

That is pretty cool. Here's a video of how to create green fire with some stuff found in your local store. I wonder how long it burns.

From what I understand the Heet is Methanol which is more dangerous to work with. I used the boric acid and ethanol and got the same flame quality.

I did do another test with a old dead sock as a wick source. Much beter flame than the tiki torch. I might have to fashion a torch myself to go into the a skull.

Tried to do a test on how long it would burn for but the rain came in and put an end to that little test.

Ethanol as in E85 from a gas station, or one of the E100 fuels from the hobby shop?

denatured alcohol which is mostly ethanol (with a wee bit of methanol in it)

If this works I might have to try and find a cheaper source though.

hmmm...I'd like to know how long it burns. It looks really cool but of course with live flame you have to be careful. Still its a neat looking effect.

I did a test burn tonight with a glass jar lid filled with the fuel. Burned for 11 minutes before it ran out. That might be worth it for the open top tiki torches then. 1 gallon should last me all night at that rate then.

    Note to self:

Large green fire in the driveway, while cool, causes traffic issues...
