I'd like to make a skin apron but I'm unsure how to go about making one. I was thinking of taking an old apron and painting a coat of liquid latex on it, then some flesh tone and blood.

Does anyone have any experience with making sheets of flesh that give me some advice?

    thanks!

I went with my wife to Joanne fabrics yesterday and there in the end-of-bolt area was white naugehide. I could see cutting that into odd sections, staining them different colors and raggedly sewing them back togetrher...

Years ago someone on the forum mentioned they poured flesh colored paint onto saran wrap to make their sheets of skin. When it was dry they peeled off the wrap.
When I was a kid I used to put thick coats of elmers glue on the back of my hand and sort of wrinkled them up and peeled it off when dry. I didn't use them for a prop or anything....just liked to freak people out : )

I was thinking maybe if you got a big piece of plastic { like a drop cloth } lay an apron down on it out line it on the plastic cut it out, then paint it with some flat flesh tone paint, draw you some scars on it and whatever else you want {like blood}, them give it a coat of silicone so it will be flexable, maybe before you paint it you could lightly spray some great stuff on it to give the look of guts and chunks of skin then paint it,just an idea.

If you go the the latex route you could cut the face off of a wig-head or mask the latex over it. you could add body parts like hands, eyeballs, ears or whatever. I see those types of things on sale all of the time or just use the Great Stuff as suggested to form body parts.

I dont think I would use great stuff... it gets to rigid, and would end up crumbling.. however a couple years ago I made a cooked turkey for a thanksgiving display. I made the majority out of great stuff, but then covered it in another expanding foam product by 3m I believe. It was latex based and stayed soft (giving the turkey a more natural feel). You might try that. I cant remember the name exactly but I do recall it was in a blue can. (and not the great stuff for windows and doors). Also it doesnt expand 4x like great stuff. I would say probably 2x.

Are you thinking something like this?

Not a bad price at $60.

It may be cheesy, but you could just find clearance masks of the latex variety that you like and cut the faces off of them. Then just sew them together randomly with large/thick thread. I think you'd get something very similar to what they're selling there. Just a thought...
