Hi all, I posted this on the General Halloween forum but I was told that you guys on the prop forum were the ones to ask. Got great help from Host and Capn but thought I would also let you have a shot at my question.
I purchased a Donna of the dead or dead donna as I like to call her last year. She was great. That long black hair and those spooky green eyes were a big hit. At the end of Halloween night I noticed that one of her eyes went out. While it was kind of a cool look that only one of her eyes were glowing I would Like to fix her so she will have both eyes glowing this year. Does anyone know if this can be done. I would rather not have to buy a new one since there are so many more new props I would rather get. Thanks for the help>

Probably just a broken wire going to the LED. You'll need to get to the circuit board and solder it back on. Can you open up her head and get a pic of the board, with a view of the wires coming from her eyes?
I...have many names...

Hi Spooky-hottie

If you can check inside the head(I havent got a Donna myself) see if the one eye LED(light emitting diode) just came out of the eye socket (sorta "detatched retina"). If it's in place, check(if you can) the solder connection on the board. Trace the wires down for the eye LED to the board and wiggle it a little to see if the eye lights up. If it lights, its a loose/broken wire and should be able to fix it easy. If it doesnt then the LED may be bad, you might be able to find a replacement at Radio Shack or other electronics store. See if you can get a number off the good one, or.. barring that, just take Donna into RS (dont ya just love the stares you'll get) and see if they can come up with a replacement part.
IF there is a real electronics store around(not a RS/CircuitCity/BestBuy-type place) but a place where they sell transistors, capacitors, batteries, electornic project cases....fix computers, TV's radios... a "Joes's Electronics" kinda place, electronics store from the 70's 'n 80's.. bet they'd love to help fix 'er. Fry's Electronics does sell electronic parts but you might not find someone there who knows individual components, worth a try tho.

I got two of those last year at a local Marc's store for $9.99 and corpsed them over. There are a few phillips type screws on top of the head and under the hair. Removing them will let you open the head and gain access to the eyes and the wires you'll need to inspect/repair. (don't be surprised if there are no brains....go figure....and she's not even blonde) Just compare with the working side and you'll probably see what's up.
If you don't want to mess with it yourself. It's hard to find the good old Radio TV shop type guys anymore. Check at the your local Radio Shack and ask them if they know of any local ham radio clubs. Or you can just do a google search for your local town's ham radio club, most of them have web sites with contact info. Those guys are pretty good at things like this (I know I'm one of em) .

No fibbing here (N8JYM) . You just have to watch when old stores get new residents, the new one's usually gut the place and throw everything out. This Marc's (discount store) had 18" black lights for $4.89, I bought all they had last year.
Hams are supposed to find all the deals. Wasn't that on your extra exam?
