I have a parrot skeleton that I made last year that I would like to add a servo to, but the heads too small and there's no place to hide the mechanics so I was thinking a servo cable system would work. Problem is I have never actually seen one. Does any one know where I might find pictures or an how to for this type of system. I'm a visual learner so with pictures I may be able to figure it out.

I've used pushrods in many applications where the servos need to be mounted elsewhere in the prop. This method is how most radio controlled models are built. Here's a model airplane site that may be of help to you.

Hey BB, a little off topic here but, how did you make your parrot ? I am going to make a skeleton monkey and just trying to find some ideas...... I have latex so I thought about making the initial skelly out of pipe cleaners..
What you find out on the servo thing for your parrot would probably work for my monkey !

Spookineer, thank you so much. I kinda thought you would have the answers I needed. Great tutorial and in plain english. So much of what I found was too techy for me.
Lynn, I made mine out of a ACC bat and Sculpey clay. I don't think that pipe cleaner will be strong enough. This was my second attempt, the first one I made was out of wire I think 16 gauge and poly batting with latex. He wasn't very sturdy so had to re-think the process. I'm glad I did, porportionally he looks much better.
I'm starting my monkey tomorrow, can't wait to get started. What are you thinking of animating or are you going to have him speak ?http://web.me.com/buckaneerbabe/Site...Halloween.html

You shoulda just asked me!

But what I was talking about is on page 8 of that SIG tut. "Flexible Cable Control". If you have a hobby depot or hobby whearhouse near you I can give you the exact model numbers since theyre two blocks from me.

yep that is how I made mine Too Buckanerbabe. I used the head and mounted it on some 1/2 pvc ran the cable down the
pipe and then made the body. using a leg from panty hose and then dragon skinned the hands to look real and fur-ed the arms. I pulled the footy panty hose up the arm of the skeleton and cover it with dragon skin and when dry cut between the fingers. Click the Pic's for the How To's:

Hope this has Helped, Hugs Blinky I used Loctite Marnie putty to make the Face of the Monkey and his ears. You can buy this at hardware store in the paint sections. Like Lowes

Dude, that was a great idea that's why I'm using it!!!!I just might need some of your mechanical genius for this project since the cable will be in motion and I'm trying to figure out if it will hinder the cable in any way. If the cable is long, 36" will there be a delay with the wave motion analyst? I would think so. Whats your thoughts.

Even if it does you can compensate with VSA by "sliding" the event, but I've used 36" cables on several with no lag or slack. As long as both ends of the outer cable tube are securely anchored, you can safely twist, bend, or move it with no effect on what you are controlling with that cable.

Hmm, sliding the event I don't think I know how to do that one. Is that some kink of a delay I would need to program in? New term for me Spookineer your gonna have to explain that one to me. But It's sure good to know that won't be a problem. Now I guess I have to do this thing that was only a thought.

BB, is there not enuff room for a micro servo, luv? If there is at least a 1.5" neck, then surely you shud be able to fit a servo inside (even if it sticks out the back just a little) to make the head swivel to and fro. I have a stuffed parrot(was alive but he drank my rum) that I'm going to put one in, I'll let you know how it goes.
