I want to make my first prop. I can do this. (Just might take a lot of patience on y'all's part in answering all the questions I'll have to get me through it :-)). Been looking over these threads, trying to figure out what a good beginner project would be and I figured, why not ask the experts?
Would you guys mind suggesting a few ideas/projects/websites for a prop virgin? I have to get started soon, hopefully it will go well and I can make a few more before this Halloween....I think it's too soon for me to decide on a haunt theme for my yard (not that good yet), I just want to make a few things that would look good out there....
Thank you for your guidance!!

Static? Animated? Motion activated? Budget?
My first project was to make wood/pvc fencing. Then foam tombstones. Then a fog chiller. Then a Monster in Box. Then Gravedigger. Then an air cannon. Then Trashcan Trauma.

Oh man, I definitely want to start out with a static prop, the term animated scares me at this point. :-) Not too worried about budget, and pretty certain we have all the necessary tools for construction...you started out with wood/pvc fencing, eh? Hmmmm, your project complexity progressed pretty quickly there..

Yeah, foam tombstones would be fun, I will enjoy thinking of names and epitaphs to put on them..
Every yard needs a few spooky creatures lurking at Halloween, thank you for the measurement chart, skullboy.
I know my skill level might seem ridiculous here, sort of embarrassed about that, but ya gotta start somewhere-hopefully I'll be making myself and you guys proud by Halloween! :-)

LaurieS,Every one of us started at the begining at one time. Just jump in with both feet and most importantly, have fun!! There is a good tutorial on here for the tombstones, check that out. And a static prop is a fairly easy start. ( reaper, witch, zombie, the list is endless) If you have any question, no matter how Ghosts, like the ones made for the FCG, but with out the motor are simple to make, but would look good hangin with a black light on them, Once ouy get started with props, you will get hooked and won't be able to stop! It is one of my obsessions, every year, I want more, improved ones!! I like having things that no one else can get in the store. If you have ANY question, just ask, some one is always glad to help out!!
I have flying monkeys- and I'm not afraid to use them!

Laurie S, Bethene's right, we all started out with one prop. I like the tombstone idea for virgins, they're easy. Besides, how could you mess one up? They come in all shapes, sizes and condition and it goes in a cemetery, after all! I'll be waiting to see pics!

Yes, tombstones would probably be a good start. I made some three years ago out of regular styrofoam and will be making new, sturdier ones this year out of 2" foam. However, the fence is probably easier.
