Hello folks:
Well after a year (almost exactly) of "lurking" about your site, let me just say thank you to everyone for your ideas and expertise. I've been the chairman for a Scout First Aid meet for 8 years now, in which we use realistic scenarios to make for a lifelike (but safe) way for Scouts to learn first aid skills. We average about 400 Scouts each year and another 200 Scouters in about 4 hrs on one day, so we know what you "haunters" go thru.
What I've created, with your help, was an antimated rope throw excercise, using the well documented (thanks to Northern Touch and others) use of a shiatsu massager and a battery op "wigglin hand" . I then coupled it with the "talking motion detectors" on some pc speakers (hidden under a Christmas snow "blanket") which would scream like a person drowning in the icy water. And...thanks to the Count, I created a "beam gun" which would start the motion dectors as soon as the Scout stepped up to the line. To make it better, the judge had only to "flash" the motion detector w/a maglite to start it if he thought the Scout was going too slow.
And thanks to you folks...a success! Everything worked w/out a hitch. The Scouts threw a rope 20 foot away to attempt to "save" the victim, and the motion detectors provided distraction and the need to hurry, much like the "real thing" . The massagers worked perfectly, I had expected to use some pc "muffin fans" to keep things cool under the clothing, but those massagers didn't even heat up a bit.
So...once again, thanks to all, this is just a first step. We've also picked up some great makeup tips to use w/all our moulages, they've been very helpful. Next year, I'm gonna plan on a scenario utilizing the thunderstorm where the Scouts will have to find & treat the victim under an intense thunderstorm. (And yep, got the great price on the F/X lightning controllers) Plus, I'm gonna make a talking Scoutmaster from a hacked Spirit ball, he'll be "narrating" a First Aid Power point presentation. I'll keep "lurking", you guys keep the tips coming, it may not have been the intent for you haunters, but you've got 400 Scouts thanking you for this year!
(I'm hoping the pics work, I'll try again if they don't)
