Hey guys,
I need an idea as to how I can allow a scream to trigger a video, whether it is a dvd player or file on a pc. I'd like to be able to control the sensitivity to determine how loud of a scream triggers it as well. I don't think a lightning controller would work because it would be on/off continuously. I need something that would throw a switch when the sound was loud enough and play a 1 minute video, then reset. Thanks!

Well Exorcist can play/reset your video on a PC and even play the clip on an auxiliary monitor.
You would still need an audio trigger device that makes a dry contact when it 'hears' the appropriate sound level.... maybe something like the lightening controller.

If you want a stand alone device you could try an event timer. The get a simple light organ and use it instead of the motion sensor as the trigger. The event timmer will allow your video or prop to play for the set time and then have a delay between the next trigger. during which time it ignors any triggers from your sensor.

Triggering video can be tricky. There are video units sold to trigger video but they are expensive. I am not aware of a way to trigger video using a DVD player.
I would guess that a color organ could be set up to trigger a timer, controller or a video unit.

Actually firing the video shouldn't be difficult, as I could use a low-level signal to fire a keyboard shortcut on a pc, or even wire it in to the "play" button on the dvd player. My problem is how to trigger the event via sound.

Get an old/cheap DVD player and hack into the play & rewind buttons. You'd have full control over playback. It would depend on how quickly playback starts. If playback is slow then you could re-cue if you hack into the pause/next track/prev track buttons also. In that case, a simple routine could automatically re-cue the DVD with a script. Although, you can do that in a browser too with javascript. I'd be more apt to stay away from computers though given the expense and playback lag.

I really appreciate the responses, but they are tending toward the actual playback part of the problem, which I have a decent grip on. What I'm hung up on is how to trigger that playback via sound - how to cause the noise to trigger a signal that I can use to hack into the play button on a dvd player.

You might be able to adapt this hack for an MP3 player http://halloweenforum.com/showthread...highlight=hack

I'm researching this, but aren't there simple solutions like The Clapper and devices for the disabled?
