I need an electrical switch that sends a current whenever it is pressed, but only during such time. Any suggestions?

Scareisburg is correct! What your looking for is called a "Momentary Push Button" .

There are a huge variety of them available depending on your use. The factors to consider would be current (amps) and voltage and then the physical appearance of the switch itself.

Heres a link that might help you out:

You can narrow down the requirements of your switch, find one right for you, and order it!

I bought a switch like that at an auto parts store for my lawnmower ignition.

What amount of current are you sending thru?
