Default Fake appliances?

Maybe someone here knows the answer. I've looked to no avail, maybe I'm not using the right search words. Is anyone familiar with the fake appliances used in retail stores and model homes? I don't mean washer or stove, but the items used to make things seem more "homey" like computers, stereos and TV's.

These are completely hollow plastic shells painted and molded to look very much like VCR or TV etc. They're very light and realistic looking. In fact one builder I worked for had a grand opening of thier newest model home and had a party for all the guys who worked on the house when it was completed. We decided while chatting and sipping our drinks to turn on the stereo for some music. ,,,,,,,,,,well we pushed the power button and pushed it almost off the the shelf. whoops! we then entertained ourselves fro the next 20 min checking out all the fake electronics we thought were real.

(yeah construction guys are easily entertained. )

I'm actually looking for some non-haunt related reasons, but hey, once ya gottem, why not use them maybe in a haunt as well for filler props?

I'd imagine they are getting them right from the companies these days, I know ikea is famous for these. They are the exact shells of electronics but all their inner workings have been removed!

Look up "Store Fixtures" or "POS" (point of sale display) companies in your area, they might be able to lead you in a better direction. Not sure of any around you. Go into stores and poke around their display cabinits, they more then likely put stickers or identification on them!

I will msg a contact in the industry and see what he can tell me!

I'll try POS , i forgot about that one. I've never been in an Ikea store, but have hear they have some nifty stuff, and evidentally that which iI seek.

As far as any stores locally go, I have not seen what I'm after in quite a while. They were using some at an office supply place, then they didnt anymore. The blank looks I got when asking about them reminded me too much of going to Home depot and just left before a headache ensued.

(not all Home Depot guys are idiots, some are very knowledgable, but some,,,,,, well ......I dunno)

Thanks for your help, you also reminded me of one place I can try thats local.

Try searching for "store fixtures"

You should find mannekins and other store items.

Get in touch with home builders in your area. They use stuff like this for the model homes.

Redneck, i spoke to my contact that makes POS displays, he has no clue where you could get those. To clarify, ikea does NOT sell these fixtures but uses them in their displays.

If your just looking for one or two, try your local thrift store, find a cheap TV or VCR and rip the guts out yourself!
