Hi,
I'm planning a prop for next year but in order to do it I will need several long, glowing tubes to hang on the wall. I was envisioning something similar to 8 foot long light sabers. I was hoping to find some long clear tubing about the diameter of a soda can. I would then stuff it with christmas lights and paint the outside whatever color I needed. Does anyone have any idea if that sort of tubing exists?
Thanks
ChiliPete

have you tought about fluorescent plastic covers (protectors)? they come in clear and yellow , and in 4 foot or 8 foot long.... ? you can get those at hardware store or lamp fixture stores for about 2 to 7 $ each i think....
i bought some last summer to make bubbling tubes in our mad lab , didnt get a chance to get to that prop but hope to do so this year....
you could also use fluorescent plastic paint and paint them and light them up with a regular white bulb ? their gonna glow like neon tubes ....A Witch from Canada

you took the words right outta my mouth... yea HD and Lowes sell floursecent tube covers... basically really thin plastic tube... that with static you could apply a talc.. or some white powder to the inside and by placing a light fixture at the ends it will glow whatever color you would like... like a floursecent tube... or you could paint the inside or outside with flourescent paint and UV it to get a similar result. A great way to do this without flooding the whole room in UV if thats a problem... is just make a few UV Led spots and place them right infront of it aiming up at a high angle... works well... LED's are cheap... so are those covers... and flourescent paint isnt bad... hmmm... maybe I will use this idea on my room! Sounds cool!

They certainly do exist, but the afore mentioned tube covers will be much cheaper.
Below is a source for acrylic 6' lengths and polycarbonate 8' lengths.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't even aware those products existed. I'll probably make a run to Lowe's this weekend and try a couple of tube covers. I'll try a few different types of paint to see if I can get the glowing look.

Another thought might be an aquarium supply store where they provide products for "large" aquariums.
