We are planning on a bottomless pit. I have seen several how-to's but they aren't very specific. Does the 2 way mirror go on top with a regualar mirror on the bottom. And with 2 way,..... the mirror side goes on the inside ? I've never actually seen one so I don't really understand how it works...... the 2 way makes it so you can see into the pit but the mirror makes it so it reflects the image from the bottom mirror, Correct ?
Help please, we are meeting this friday and I would like to actually NOW what I'm talking about when I explain it to the others !!! HEHEHE
I know this is probably something really simple and I am probably being DENSE by not getting it.... but, I don't get it !!!

you actually are exactly correct... as long as the light inside is brighter inside than outside... the mirror will let you see through but reflect the image of the bottom mirror. Ive always wanted to do one of these at the end of my hallway... but theres still time hehe. Please post some picts of what the group works up!

Thanks, after thinking and thinking..... I thought this had to be the way it worked.
We're doing a bridge with bottomless pits on both sides.... the bridge will 'sway' some so they will feel like they might fall in !

I encountered a bridge over a "bottomless pit" at a year-round haunt, and they simply had closet door mirrors ($10 from WalMart, with the frames removed) lined up on the floor on each side which reflected the walls, making it look VERY MUCH like you were crossing a deep chasm. No 2-way mirrors or lights.

We did a bottomless pit in 2003. It is pretty cool.
2007 I changed it by putting spiders in it so it looked like LOTS of spiders coming up.
Something happened after halloween to it, I think that the lightbulb ended up resting on the bottom mirror and it left a disfigurment on the mirror. so now I am going to have to do some repairs for next year, while it is open I will probably change the inside. We use camoflage burlap and moss.Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

I want to make a bottomless pit. I've seen a 20" X 24" mirror for sale at Lowe's for $15 that I thought would work well.
I like the idea of putting an animated skelly or spiders in it, also.

You can save money by going to your local glass supplier and asking for their left over mirrors. Most shops throw away quite a bit of glass and mirrors every week. You can make the 2 way mirror with glass and the chrome looking sun guard material available to Home Depot.
Last year we built a 36" wide 7' tall endless hallway. As people approached it and saw the endless mining tunnel ahead the lights went out and they were momentarily left in the dark. During the darkness the endless hallway was pivoted out of the way and they were encouraged to step forward. They thought they were stepping forward into a dark endless hallway but the blacklights came on to reveal they were in a large room surrounded by fighting skeletons. It is a very cool effect and an original with ScaryU.
