I stopped off at Walgreens, and picked up two of these nifty candles:
They were in the 75% off x-mas, so I got them for $1.25 each. I'm planning on painting the "candle" part either black or red. The gold base has a small holly leaf detail, but it would be invisible unless you're right up on it, and I can paint them up to be tarnished and old looking. The cool part is that they are LED, and they have a self timer that will shut them off after 6 hours, and then turn on the same time each day for another 6 hours. They run off of three AA batteries.
They can't be removed from the base (they are all one piece) and they also come with a suction cup holder so you could mount them on glass.
What could I do with these? I need some cool ideas. I do a typical graveyard outside, but we did our first halloween party last year with a haunted house theme...

if you could do a fly wire(FCG), they could float across the yard... Put them on a skeletal arm moving slowly up and down, like in a hallway, or just being held by a ghost or skeleton..

If you have any life size mannequins about or you have the facilities to make one, I think one would look fantastic gripped in the bony fingers of a shrouded figure standing in a doorway...

It would be cool if at your party someone tried to turn on the light to go into a room and found it wasn't "working" and only had the flickering light to help them find their way! Imagine jumping out of a dark corner and scaring the bejesus out of someone! ha!
Great find...
