I purchased a FITCO Screamer Fog Machine on 10-29 and a Ground Fog Machine on 11-1 from the Spirit Store. I used the Screamer Fog Machine on Halloween. I will use the ground fogger next year in 2008. I'm inexperienced with foggers. The instructions seemed to be written by someone who didn't know English very well. I know many here use fog machines. I was hoping that someone here could clarify the instructions and answer a few questions. Here are the instructions for the ground fogger as printed.

Place the machine on a level surface and remove the cap of the fluid tank to fill with high quality fog liquid, when the tank is full, replace the cap back onto the fluid tank. Insert the water tube into the attached water bag. When ice dissolves into water, water will flow into the water bag.1

Loose the nut on top cover to open the top cover, fill the ice container with some ice cubes, then cover the top cover and tighten the nut. Firmly insert the remote control plug into the socket on the rear of the machine.

Ensure the power switch located at the rear of the machine is "OFF", plug the power cord into a 3-prong, grounded electrical outlet consistent with the machine's rated voltage.

Turn on the power switch, the red lamp on the remote control will be "on".

Allow the machine to warm-up about 4 - 5 minutes. When the warm-up is complete the red lamp will be "off", that means the ice low fog machine is ready to emit low fog.

To emit low fog, press the remote control red button and hold for the desired length of time. The machine may need to reheat after an extended discharge of fog. Note: The red lamp on the remote control will cycle on and off as the machine reheats to its operating temperature.

    Cleaning
After every 40 hours of continuous operation or when the machine will be idle for a long time it is recommended to run a cleaning solution composed of distilled water
2 through the system to prevent the accumulation of particles.
    1. While the unit is unplugged, clean with mild soap and water.
3 Allow the sock4 to dry completely before reattaching to unit. Empty all fog fluid from the machine and replace with distilled water in the tank. Plug unit in and allow to run as usual.
    2. Run unit in a well ventilated area until tank is empty.
    3. Replace clean sock. Cleaning is now complete.

    QUESTIONS
    1. If used outdoors, can the water bag be omitted and the water allowed to run into the ground?

    2. Does this mean that distilled water can be used to clean the machine instead of Fog Cleaning Fluid? Also, can distilled water be used to clean the smaller Screamer Fog Machine? (Fog Cleaning Fluid is recommended, but I couldn't find any.)

    3. Clean with soap and water? This is an electrical device.

    4. What is the sock?

    5. How much ice should I keep on hand?

    6. Any other suggestions?

I hope I don't sound like too much of an idiot with these questions.

I've since noticed several threads concerning fog machines. With replies and links to fogger info, most of my questions have been answered. As to the question about the water bag, I'm going to assume that the water bag can be eliminated when used outdoors.

    Thanks
