Ok, exactly how do you use it? Wouldn't burn up the pump?

Although Phoenix knows WAY more than I do about EVERYTHING, there is one point he didn't make. Be sure and use distilled water. The impurities in tap water can clog the pump.

Yeah distilled water is a good idea, I get away with using regular tap water where I live because its very soft (i.e. low in the kind of impurities that screw up pumps and heating elements).

just put some in your tank and run it through.... after that it debatable, some brands say just empty the tank, some say run some clean fog fluid through to keep everything lubricated, other say run the system dry

I am not a big fan of "cleaning" foggers. I have a 700 watt Lite F/X fogger that is 6 years old and is the best one I have ever had. I never clean it. I dump the fluid, wipe it off, and back in the attic it goes. I have taken others apart that were cleaned and found rust in the pumps. as fas as I can tell, fog juice does not gel up, nor does it seem to be corrosive.

It seem like once the pumps on these machine go, they are never the same again. I spent 1 1/2 playing with one the other day and was never able to get the pump working quite right again. Ended up pitching it and buying another at Rite Aid for $14.99.

It's almost easier to just keep a spare it seems.

I have been told to store the pumps with fog juice in them, yet I still have some that won't run.

I'm going to try and run some of these cleaning ideas and see what I can salvage, I have 8 of them, so if no luck I'll just buy new ones. I'm going to use the Vinegar/Distilled Water directions from my Haunted Attractions magazine.
Here are some How To sites on cleaning:
