Thanks folks for the compliments. I'm still tinkering with the lighting and am missing a few pictures which were too dark of some other new props which I'll try to post later.

    P.S. Octoberist - you'll definitely be hearing from me again...and again...and again...and again!

    Wow, Those look Fantastic Tavaruas!

How did you get your night shots to come out so nice? My dh took all my pics this weekend and they really came out kinda crappy. So if you can give me your secret I might be motivated to reset-up everything at home tomorrow and try again.

Last year ALL of my night time Halloween shots came out terribly as well. They were all very blurry, too dark or too grainy.

The secret is to use a TRIPOD and SLOW your shutter speed down (i.e., longer exposure time so more light is let into the lense). Do NOT use a flash.

I'm using a Nikon Coolpix digital camera which has a night setting with a slow shutter speed. The slow shutter speed lets in more light so you don't need the flash which washes out the pictures. However, because you are using a slow shutter speed you will not be able to hold the camera still enough to avoid a blurry image so you need to use a tripod. If you don't have a tripod perhaps you could rest your camera on a box or some boards to keep it still.

I have absolutely no camera experience and learned all this online last night before taking the pictures. A family member lent me the tripod.

    Good luck!

Wow, wonderful!! Wish I could go check out ur house!!! I have to scale back this yr, my hubby is not going to be here for halloween cause he has to work, so of course everything is breaking, falling over cause of the rain etc. I dont have anyone else to help me, of course he will be home in the morn after halloween he couldnt get off of work. Wah! Oh well, will make up for it next yr. Halloween is always much better on the weekends anyway. It always ends too soon on a school nite.
    But your house it awesome!

Tav; how did u make ur groundbreakers, did u corpsefy some 1/2 buckies or are they some other kind of prop. They look fanstastic. A lot better than my groundbreaker, he's just pvc, chickenwire, plasticbags for stuffin and expandable foam, then wig head, mask, scary gloves.
