Make a wash of black and green paint and water, and sponge it on. Or bury them.

Okay...take a chain and beat them so that there are some spilnters are it is dented and then take some muddy water and pour that on them and then take a metal brush, plastic brush, etc. and rub the muddy water into it then repeat to make aged or you can put some dead leaves on top of them and burn the leaves!

If your budget is that tight, maybe you could hit the supermarket and try some Rit dye ? Pine will absort just about aything. If you apllied it with a spray bottle, it might give you some decent streaking and such. ???? Just a thought.

Distressing, that's the easy part wait till you try and take them apart. I about killed myself this week using a crowbar and mallet trying.. I gave up and decided on a trip to the hardware store to be much more practical to going to the emergency room.

Lightbulb just a thought...

hey Bilbo,
without using paint...start with beating the snot out of them whips, chains, hammers, grinders, nail guns...whatever floats your boat down that avenue.

From there find yourself a mudpuddle or make one for that matter and smear on some thick and heavy mud and let it set to dry.
Once it's dry break off some of the bigger chunks and leave the rest. Then get some gloves and find a bunch of grass clippings and some ashes and rub, rub, rub...hopefully this will give you enough old age for this year.
Once the holiday is over leave those suckers outside for the real aging process to get going....Hope this helps...

Heres and idea!!! Loose the pallets and find a local fence company that build wood fences....then ask them if you can have some of the old fence sections. They are already aged and much easier to take apart.

A really easy way to age wood to the silver grey look is vinegar and steel wool .

Leave steel wool in a batch of white vinegar overnight and then poor into a spray bottle dulte with water slightly and spray.. This will turn the wood grey black or drak brown. IF its too dark add more water until you acheive the look you want

Do you have any industrial areas around? Most companies will give pallets away for free. My work throws away dozens of pallets every week... If there is anyone in southeast Mass area, I can get you some. Here is my house all boarded up:

Okay, you answered the first question that came to mind... second one is, "if you didn't nail them to your house, how the heck did you get them to stay on???" I have an idea or two for doing it, but your's look really good.
