The how-to on the flicker circuit is here:

It's really inexpensive and allows you to have flickering lamps that are much brighter than those 3 watt flicker bulbs.
Thanks, that is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for... I have a guy holding a lantern that would look a lot better if the light was flickering rather than just a steady beam of light. I might try to add some flickering lights elsewhere also, maybe a project for next year since I'm pretty much set up this year, but you never know I might get around to it before Halloween night.

OK, going to make this flicker circuit..... guess I need a diagram. Anyone have one out there for the flicker circuit using the florescent starter and starter base..... ? The link above tells breifly how to make this but, I guess I need a PICTURE ! from female side of extension cord to the outlet.... from that side of the outlet to the starter, from the starter to the other side of the outlet, and from there back to the extension cord ? Sorry I'm being dense about it but... Its all in series right ?

How about simply plugging in your stuff into a flicker circuit? I'm talking 2-3 bucks at Ace Hardware.

If you are looking for a low voltage LED solution, I found some decent flicker circuits on eBay that come with LEDs. Search there. I bought 10 flicker circuits plus 10 LEDs for $1.99 plus $5.50 shipping from Hong Kong. They are very nice for an electric candle effect, if you don't mind doing your own soldering. They work nicely off of a 3 volt coin-sized battery.

Here is how I create my flicker effects in our haunt. It's very complex but it creates the most realistic effect I've seen:

devds2, your solution would be great but I want simple.... We're lighting a hall way with about 6 lanterns. I want them to be low light, and to flicker like flames. But, also I just want to be able to make them then just plug in any where.. so, probably I will go with the florescent starter idea. then I can just plug the lanterns into the starter circuit when and where I need. Or just have regular lanterns if I want no flame....Besides, our resources are tight ! (money) ... (none) hehehe
