    Can anyone on here tell me a good max torque to look for in the left/right and up/down servos for a animated skull? i heard bucky skulls can be pretty heavy and would like to be safe and not strip servos on my first attempt.

    thanks =D

    check out the website http://www.stulack.com/animatedskull.htm
    He is using Hitec HS-425BB. Left to right shouldn't need that much torque but because of the weight of the bucky skull you will need a stronger servo for the up and down. Check out Servo City for servo specifications http://www.servocity.com/html/hitec_servos.html

    I'm using cheap Cirrus CS-248's I got off of ebay for $2.50 each for both up/down and left/right in my Bucky. My guess is they're somewhere around 50-55 oz/in at 6 volts. For up/down movement, I used a pretty heavy spring for a counterbalance. At normal head movement speeds, they work well. Running at full speed, they're a little too bouncy.

    I'm working on building a full-movement (shoulder/elbow/wrist) arm now. For the primary shoulder servo, I used a Bluebird BMS-630MG. It's extreme overkill! 190 oz/in at 6 volts and .17 sec/60 degrees. When I first flipped on the power, the servo flung an arm-length piece of PVC around hard enough and fast enough to leave a welt on my leg! It will hold 18" of PVC plus 3 other servos and all of the linkage parts straight out solidly without a twitch or buzz. I'm thinking of getting another one to use in the head so I don't have to rely on the spring.
