Question Hot wire foam factory

Hey everyone!! It has been awhile since I've posted anything here. I just wondered if anyone as ever ordered anything from this site. Its looks really cool, and I am considering ordering a kit but wanted to see if anyone else has used these tools on their tombstones, etc.

I personally have not used any of their products from there but I know that I have seen other threads on here that have mentioned their products. May want to do a search to find some of those other threads. I've looked at buying from there a few times but just have never gotten the money together to do it.

I bought the K-16 kit at deathfest 2 years ago. The knife lasted a week past the 90 day warranty. E-mailed them asking if they would honnor the warranty - never heard back from them - I also paid about 1/2 the list price by buying at the convention. I do like the sculpting tool.

Sounds good to me! I am also attending the 2006 HauntCon in Denver this coming May and they are suppose to be one of the vendors, maybe I'll hold off on buying it until then.

I had asked this question before. Unk told me the same thing. I wish I had took his advice. As with Unk I too bought a hot knife and it broke after one use. There are no replacements for the metal piece when it breaks. All you can do is throw it away. I was trying to use it to build my crypt. You have to go really slow or it will bend and then slowly break. The good news is I was able to get a replacement from them for free. They just asked me to send the broken one back. Which I did. I only used the hot knife for the letters for my crypt. I think that is all it is good for. If you need to cut large pieces, use a scroll saw or a jig saw. You might want to goto a craft store and buy their version. It is basically a soldering iron with a piece of metal used to melt the foam. And at least you can change out the piece of metal if it breaks. Listen to Unk. I wish I did. Unk knows better.

I bought the kit plus a couple extras from internettrains.com for a little less than the hotwire site. Also if you want to get them now the code for $5 off for over $50 purchases is

cp011206

That's good until 01/22/06

also when using them ...watch out for yellowjackets, I found out the hard way that they are attracted to the smell of the foam cooking.

The sculpting tool works, you just need to go slow with it. I use it to smooth edges after a ruff cut with a jig saw.

If you want to buy something I would suggest the sculpting tool, but wait till the con in Denver. You will get a better price.

I use a soldering iron for lettering, and razzors and knives and other sharp things

I haven't dealt with the company but have heard of enough problems to stay away. I do have a 'craft store version' that works really well as well as a version that came with a wood burning kit (the tool looks like a thick pen) and works well for lettering and other small details.........just another idea to consider.
