Here's one of two dumpster I check 3 times a week.....at 2 thrift stores. This dumpster gets full in 4 days. Just about all the boxes have goodies in them. I've found motion detectors, mask, foam head, enough pants, shrits, suit coats, shoes, hats to dress a 1000 props (i don't take it all) baby beds, baby swings, pictures frames, DOLLS (one bag had 32 dolls in it, stuff animals (big bag full) wigs, wood (a shipping crate that had 16 12 foot 1x4 boards) metal for making linkage. old pictures, foam (for stuffing props) VCR's, CD players, tape players (most of the time all they need is a power cord to work)........you name it I've found it. Not counting the boxes of Christmas stuff.

I picked this up today.......I pulled it out of a box with 3 smocks, and 2 wigs. This head has punched hair...not a wig.

I remember last year when the dumpster diving topic came up, and I feel it's necessary to post a few warnings here. #1 There are often wild animals in dumpsters scrounging for food, and you can be bitten, mice, rats, racoons, skunks and worse. #2 These dumpsters often contain broken glass, nails, rusted metal and sharp objects of all kinds, be careful. #3 If you're on private property or a construction site, taking from a dumpster can be considered theft. It's wise to get the owners permission first.

There is a big difference between private property and common property. Common property is like a shopping centers parking lot and unless the dumpster has a fence or pad lock. What they throw in a dumpster, no longer belongs to the person or store throwing it away. The same thing is true when a person sets things out on the curb. The supreme court ruled that once you throw it away it no longer belongs to you.

That's why the police can go through your trash, without a warrant, if it's on the curb or sidewalk (common property). Also some of the movie stars tried to sue the paparazzi for the things they printed, that came out of the stars trash. That why you will see locks on the trash can of the stars.

I've never seen or heard any rats or animals in the dumpsters I check but I've seen a lot of sharp rusty metal and broken glass. But it's worth digging throught it for me. If I had to guess I would say I've saved over $1500.00 dollars in the last 2 years on things (Halloween) I've got from those 2 dumpsters. Not only that I made over $300.00 in last years yard sale just from those 2 dumpsters.

Amy those pool noodles come in handy for making arms and legs to fill out the clothing on dummies.
Here's some pics of our new find from last week. They are made of fiberglass. Gonna have to make a new latex mold of the heads before we decide what to do with them.

Behenthere, I go through Jeff City to get to my uncles farm down towards the Ozarks! The next time we go down we'll have to make plans to swing on by. If your ever on your way to ST. Louise let me know.
