Check out this Infrared timer I just found, plug it in to an outlet and go! No hacks, no soldering..NICE. This is the company I bought my colororgan from too. I think it was like 5 bucks!

That's pretty cool! I don't know how well it would work outdoors though, with wind and temperature changes up here in NH it might not do so well. I still might try it though...lol!
