Default Plasma balls and otehr electrostatic stuff

I think everyone already knows this but if you hold a flourecent light an certain distance from a plasma ball it lights up. I just got a plasma ball brain as a gift for absolutly no reason and you can use a flourecent light in its proximity.

Plasma balls are great! I've got a HUGE one in my room... If I put my hand on it and my other hand near other electronics they start flippin out! It'll make watches start beeping, lights turn on and off, and stuff like that. I used to have a stuffed Homer Simpson that talked when you squeezed his hand... or if u put it anywhere's near the plasma ball! I'll post a pic of the plasma ball later today.

Here's a couple pics of it. Not the best, but they'll have to do.

Those things are cool. What's glowing in the background?

It's 1ft in diameter. I also have one that's about 5".

I have a black light next to it to help show it's black light responsive base (the little blue "feet" that come up it's sides). Glowing behind it is a couple of glow in the dark stars on my wall... you should see my cieling, it's COVERED in glow in the dark stars. lol... maybe I'll try and take a pic of that tonight when it's darker.

If I remember right, it was orignally $150. It was on sale for $100, and I think I had a gift certificate which brought it down some more... but it was still expensive! I've had it for a few years now. It sits way up on my desk and it's almost always on.

What's it filled with? LOOKS like shredded tinfoil!
Actually, I knocked my smaller one over a while back and the globe came off, luckily it didn't brake. But I had to put it back together. It's got a plastic pole with a little piece on the end that sends out the electricity. This plastic pole is inside a glass pole. They rise up into the center of the globe. But that little piece that sends out electricity has to be touching the tinfoil stuff for it to work. Where ever the tinfoil is, that's where the static "arm" things come from... I know becuase I didn't quite get the tinfoil in right the first time and it was sticking down the glass pole and the arms started coming off the pole. All the tinfoil is in a little glass ball in the very center, which is the pink ball that you see in the pics.

Well, that's MY explanation of them from what I learned from putting one back together. Hopefully it made some sense. I don't know exactly what the stuff is, just that it looks like shredded tinfoil.

And if you meant what is the entire globe filled with, nothing. Just air. Only the little ball in the center has the tinfoilish stuff.

Crazy - On your brain, if you put your hand to it, do all the "arms" go to your hand? I'd take some pics of mine and what it can do, but I'm afraid to be holding a digital camera and touch the thing at the same time. If it can mess with a watch and stuff, I don't know what it can do to a digital camera!

Yah, they go to mny hand. YOur camera should have a timer on it, mine does. Is there any gas inbetween the center elecronic releaser thing and the outside of the globe. mine said something about phosphor.
