Inbetween that pink ball of light you see in the picture that has all the arms coming off of it, and the globe - nothing. Just air. I know there's no gases, becuase like I said before, the globe of my other came off, and that would release any gases, and it still works fine. That and the globes are removable, so they can't put any gases in that would escape and prevent it from working once put back together.
Don't they lightly coat metals in phosphor for different reasons? I know it's used in florescent lights and stuff, but I also thought they can coat metals in it too. Maybe that tinfoilish stuff is coated in it. Don't really know much about phosphor though.
I'll have to see if I can figure out how to use the timer on my camera... It looks pretty cool with one giant "arm" shooting straight up at your hand!
