Just thought i'd mention this for those who have considered it but didn't wanna spend the 7 bucks a can. This stuff is awesome! The stuff i bought is called "Amereican accents" from OHS. One can seems to go a long ways. I already covered one graveyard pillar and still seem to have enough left to do the remianing one and then some.
It looks like real stone....much better than the enlargerd nozzle trick to make simulated granite. There were a bunch of colors, one being a grey with black and while specs. But i went for the tan looking stuff and it turned out to be the right color for what i want. If you have hesitated because you thought you might be throwing away 7 bucks on something that wouldn't turn out that good, or that you'd need many cans to cover little area, DON'T hesitate. This stuff is perfect ! Oh, and as a bonus it doesn't have the strong chemical smell of regular spray that can give you a headache.

Well. i guess i was wrong about the amount....the can went fairly quick once i did the 2nd pillar. Still a good amount tho, just not as much as i thought.
One problem i have to is that i can't find a good way to age it. The stone looks too new, but because it looks so real i don't want to make it look cartoonish as with my tombstones. When i say cartoonish i mean like a film prop in an old horror flick. I want then to retain a realistic look, but when i tried short burst of black from a few feet it began taking on that fake horror flick look. Then i tried watering down some black water color and sprauing it on to let it run and give that weathered look. But it wouldn't run till i put too much on and caused a big black spot. I tried watering it down more, then less...all ratios, but nothing worked. Then i tried a sponge with very little watered down paint and tried brushing streaks down it. Still no luck.
Now i'm going to have to re-spray them with more stone paint. It will only take a small amount to bring them back, but then i'm back at square one with no idea how to age them. Anyone have any suggestions?

I did the same thing as you. To age mine a bit i dirtied it up and added some vines around it.
All is done

Vines....thats exactly what i was thinking of earlier, but i don't know where to find fake vines. Real ones would have to be replaced every halloween and i would much prefer a permanent thing so i'd have one less thing to do. Does Michaels have em i wonder? I gotta make it down to that place.

Michael's has vines. You may be able to find them in a thrift store as well. I painted my tombstones gray (using the "bad" paint from HD...you know, the colors that customers returned or rejected) and then just used a sea sponge to dab white all over and then went over that with dabs of black. The granite look is fantastic!

Great !I'll be going to Michaels then. I think the vines on the pillars will look incredible. I also went out today thru a farm area where they have roadside stands that sell pumpkins. I not only got my 66 lb pumpkin for the graveyard, but for an extra $2.50 i got a huge bundle of old dried cornstalks. They should look good at the back of the graveyard and up on the porch. Might even use some to make a wizard of oz type scarecrow.

If you are going to Michaels, you may want to pick up some raffia for your scarecrow.

Well, the scarecrow is just an idea at this point, and it's fruition depends on how much time i have. But believe me, i will check it out along with everything else they have in stock. As for the vines, i hope they have em, as i couldn't find em on the website. Maybe i just need better search words....
