hey all
i took apart an old fountain..ya know the ones for home decor where the water flows down the rocks..so i now have a submersible pump.
what i want to make is, a punchbowl with a fountain coming out of a ghouls mouth...im using a big cauldron, the ghoul i am making tonite....
i guess my question is, has anyone ever made one of these? im not sure if there are all different kinds of pumps, and so i dont know if the pump i have will work. everything else im pretty confident about putting together.
the pump i have looks similar to this ----> http://www.fountainbuilder.com/images/WT55LV.jpg
pretty small, and i have no idea about these things.
any advice would be appreciated!

I don't have a lot of experience with them either, but I do know those pumps don't push a lot of water normally. You want to make sure that the pump doesn't have to push too much water "up" to the ghoul's mouth. The higher above the pump it is, the more it has to work against gravity. You may have to experiment a little bit to get the best result.

Hiya' mere.
I made one of the barfing baby punchbowls this year. I bought a 130 GPH pump from www.artflowdesigns.com and it works just fine spewing the liquid through about 18" of tubing.
A lot of times, the pumps in the tabletop fountains are around 70 GPH. I would say that the pump you have should do the trick if you're not going to push it through too much tubing (i.e., less than a foot). I had this same question for the pump I bought, so I tested it with this method: go to your sink, fill it with water (or fill a bowl with water), connect the pump to the length of hose you are going to need to use, submerge the pump, turn on the pump, and hold the tubing up (pointing the end back down into the sink or bowl so the water re-circulates), allow the pump to try to push the water through. If it just dribbles out or doesn't come out at all, you either have to get a higher rated pump or a shorter distance between pump & end of tube.
By the way, I also built a "bleeding skull" fountain using the same pump. It works great.
Hope this helps and good luck. The results are really neat, by the way.

I have made one of these but instead it was a hand.. I just recomend either having the ghoul or whatever the water will be comming out either close to the punch bowl or just keep it away from a wall and put mats on the ground because my spashed everywere like just little spash now and then but by the night was doen my wall was coverd in red water that stained.
All is done

im thinking that the pump i have may be a bit small, as i need to run about a foot and a half of tubing...ive looked on the pump itself and cant find the gph...it does say 60hz...not sure whats up with it...
so, this weekend, i think ill pick up a bigger one
now, hmmmm, what can i make with this little pump...that blood fountain sound cool groovethang!
