So for the last 2 days those of us that hang out on the General Discussion board area have been on the Home Depot 2016 shopping thread and salivating and ordering the new Home Depot life-size skeleton horse. I know sometimes people only hang out on the Prop Board so thought you might be unhappy to find the horse too late to order it and wanted to give the heads up here. Lots of discussion on it over on the other board along with ideas for using it.

Here's the order page: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Acc...-Standing-Skeleton-Horse-6342-86676/206802721

He is available for free delivery for who knows long, and is expected in stores soon but in what quantity and how many stores stocking him unclear. He was on sale for 24 hrs on Friday and then everything new including him got pulled. Some people saw limited quantities left and then he was out of stock but earlier today he was available for delivery again. Act fast if you want a pony! There were broken hearts until he went back up this afternoon. BTW I was told his box weighs 40 lbs. and my UPS tracking sheet says 51 so be prepared if you have to pick him up in a store. When I asked about the size box he was in I was told:

24.63 H x 40.25 W x 22.75 D

Here's the HD Halloween webpage and if you scroll down to "Shop Halloween" you'll see a photo of the horse which is a video link to show him in a scene and with lit eyes and horse sound track:

Happy Trails to all who order him!

The description says "A metal support structure is inside the legs to add stability and strength to the horse" so the discussion over in the other section was that most likely that it wouldn't be posable. Not saying it couldn't be done knowing people here who manipulate skeletons and create parts but it is a big prop and you'd need to carefully balance the weight and add support to do that. He does need to be assembled so there were would be separate pieces that maybe could be modified as well. People that ordered on Friday and Saturday should be getting them delivered this coming week.

If no one else does, I'll see if I can get photos of mine tomorrow. He's being delivered then. I don't know when that will be as we usually get UPS deliveries late, late in the afternoon and don't know whether I will assemble him yet. I'm on PDT btw so for many of you, not until tomorrow night. I do plan to at least open the box and see what he's all about even if I don't assemble yet.

Just a heads up for this prop section: the horse is now showing sold out online. Will be available for purchase in stores but from what the website says you need to come into the store to buy. Right now they aren't showing store locations but should be soon and then the horse race begins all over again. Good luck. And remember he's at least 40 lbs. when you pick him up.

Heads up again. Horse went back IN STOCK for delivery again. Site says order within next 1-1/2 hr and get by Aug 9 or pick up in store for free 8/9-8/12. No idea when stores will stock halloween to buy directly in store. The HD website now allows you to see what Nearby Stores May Have This Item by clicking on Check Nearby Stores (have your zip code set to my Store).

Also there's a few people getting their horses today. Check the General Discussion's Home Depot thread for photos later today.

Yeah - I checked my local HD in Charlotte, NC and they suggested to come back 3-4th week in August.

Side bar: The employees looked at me like I was nutz when I asked them when the dead horses were going to be put out on display? Waaaaa?

BTW these keep coming in online and going out. Spoke with a customer service person today and she said they were getting deliveries every so often so keep checking the website. She also said the online supply is different from the store supply and not shared inventory. A few people got their horses today and assembled them.

I'm going to do something else with him this year to fit a different scene, but I was originally thinking I'd pose him one year with my CVS headless horseman. I'm sure there will be some way to modify the HH, just have to get creative with zip ties, pole supports, etc. If you use your HH and the horse this year, please post a photo. Love to see it.

I got my pony today. It's not too difficult to take down. I've already put him together and taken it apart twice now. Had it delivered to work and everybody wanted to see it, so we put him together. I had to take him back apart to get him home. Then the wife wanted to see it, so we put it together again. I typically don't take my props apart or do any dismantling, just carry everything down to the basement, but there was no way I could do that with this horse, it's so large that it had to be broken down. It's not difficult to put together or take down, but it really helps if you have two people. I've had assistance when putting him together and taking him apart.

I love this horse. I had him assembled in under 10 minutes. I was concerned I would not be able to disassemble him because the steel armature inside has push button locks that snap when inserted. I later realized there is a hole drilled through on the opposite side where you can use a supplied pin to push the button in while removing the piece. There should be concern about storage. He breaks down and can be stored at 1/5 his size.

So modifications...

I am considering running a small fog machine through the steel armature and having smoke come out his mouth.

I also disassembled his head and might replace the red LED lights with larger ones.

Very interested to see what others do to theirs. No better group of creative people than this one.

I have no plans to purchase one but I think my Audio Servo Controller would be a great mod for this horse. Use any horse sound FX and have the jaw move in sync.

Double the pleasure, double the fun as they say ;). LOL at the thought of some of the orders for two horses. Now that's really ponying up for them. You guys will need your own little horse stable too! Still wish we all lived close enough to each other to meet at a ranch or something and bring our horses and get a photo of all of them together. This HF alone would probably be dozens of them and more from those that lurk here and don't post (come on guys come out of the woodwork and join in). That would be quite an awesome site. Love to see how you will use the pair. Photos please come your halloween set up.
