This is something I made to sit on the candy table in front of the witch's shack. Other props include a crystal ball, rune stones, potion bottles, Baby In a Jar, etc. I didn't want this thing to look fancy, I wanted it to look real - unadorned, hand-made, beaten and battered by time. I made no great effort on the cover for that reason and also because it will rarely be seen - the book is meant to be displayed open.
The images were downloaded and printed on regular copy paper. Sheets were glued back to back with ordinary Elmer's glue and allowed to dry overnight. Each page was crumpled into a random ball or shape and then pressed flat again. Each page was then stained using a 2" paint brush dipped in extremely strong coffee. The page(s) were then immediately moved to a 200 degree oven for five to ten minutes. Finally, all pages were stacked together and pressed under a pile of heavy books overnight.
