    Default 2013 Setup

Still haven't finished, but pretty much there. In the past I've waited til the day of (super paranoid about vandals), but this year I decided it's too much work and too much fun for 1 day, so I started on Saturday.

New this year and a feature I really love due to the glowing coals tutorial is the witch. Real cast iron cauldron that's been rusting in the yard for 24 years, put my Boy Scout knots/lashings to use on the apparatus:

A modified fly-and-moo ghost. He looks kinda sad without his arms, but fanning out the cheesecloth created too much wind resistance for the little motor. He flies over the sidewalk between the front porch and a tree:

    And the stones.

Added more lighting this year; last year I only had 1 floodlight on the ground. That created a great mood, but the shadows cast obscured a lot of the stones, so I added down-lighting this year to offset that. It's not as bright as the long-exposure night shots make it look, and there'll be fog on the big night.

Will add more photos as I finish up. Still need to get my fence up, and the strobes, and I'll have final photos with the fog going.

I get so upset when I see people post their fears of vandals. I guess we are lucky in our neighborhood. I set up my scene the 2nd week of Sept and so far (knock on wood) have not had any issues with theft. I hope your Halloween is a blast this year!!
When black cats prowl and pumpkins gleam, May luck be yours on Halloween!

I've never actually had a problem with vandals, but I'm paranoid.

    Had a scare last night:
At 11:45 PM the doorbell rings, so I look through the glass and see what looks like a kid, which I can handle, so I opened the door enough to speak.
It's a 16-20-yr-old guy in basketball shorts, no shirt (55 degrees and drizzling outside).
"Yes?" I say. He stares at me for a second, collecting his thoughts, he's clearly high or drunk out of his mind.
    "Uhhhhhm . . . ah, trick-or-treat."
"Oh!" I stifle a giggle, "that's tomorrow, man, you've got the wrong night. Come back tomorrow and I'll have some candy for you."
He again tries to pull words from the deep for a second ". . . . oh . . . ok."
    "Alright, bud, be safe."

I was terrified that he would kick everything he saw between the door and driveway, but he ambled off harmlessly. Maybe I'll see him tonight
