Default Gemmy "The fog machine" Help

so i just purchased 2 used gemmy fog machines off craigslist, and everything seems to work fine on them, just there is no fog coming out of them. There is no remote and i was wondering if the remote is required for use? i picked up some wireless ones from party city today and they dont seem to work. if anyone has the link for them that would be great! i didnt clean them when i got them, but i can. i plug them in, the light comes on, it heats up, and then im at a lost on what to do. every once and a while a bit of fog will leak out the top and a little bit from the spout but just a very small amount. im very new to fog machines so anything you can say will probably be helpful to me. if i need to provide more info just let me know. im looking to solve this problem ASAP because i purchased them for a video shoot i have coming up. Thanks for the help in advance!

Do you have a model number etc? I have a few that have remotes the. One that has a timer in my casket fogger. It just sounds like your missing a key component.

You need a remote, its required for operation. These models don't run by themselves, you usually only see that on higher end foggers/controllers.

1.) Call the guy back you bought the machines from, ask him to look for the remotes
2.) Call local halloween stores (Spirit, Party City, etc) and see if they carry remotes for your model number
3.) Call local stores...... and see if they have generic remotes; if they have the same connector, they may work for you

    Just some thoughts.....

I hand to get my remote from Gemmy. The party city remotes would not work. Gemmy was very helpful. Call or email them.

The remotes most of these things come with aren't timer remotes anyway, so I wouldn't cry if you can't find them. Some models come with both a regular (manual push button) and timed remote (adjustable automatic interval triggers) but most of them do not, so you have to buy a timer anyway. There is very little use for a manual remote, unless you have an actor that needs to be able to trigger it precisely during a scare.. There's another thread somewhere on how to rewire a generic timer remote to work with foggers that the universal ones don't work with.

Like most have said, they come with a push button remote you press when you want fog. When you buy a timer it replaces the push button remote (plugs into the same jack), and additionally has a manual button anyway, so my recommendation would be to just buy the timer.

Best price I've found is Spirit at $17... Most everywhere else is $20-$24.

If your having a hard time finding timers for your fogger you can get prettty much any timer to work with any fogger with a little modding. If the new timer does not work with your fogger all you have to do is change polarity around on the cable of the timer. To do this all you do is cut the cable on the timer, leave the ground wire alone and switch the other 2 wires around.

Just switch these 2 wires marked in blue around and leave the red one alone. Just be sure to do it on the timer and not the fogger. You could do it on the fogger, but I like to mod the least expensive parts whenever possible.

It has worked for me a bunch of times and also for few people in this thread...

how sure are you that it will work? im on a very tight budget and cant afford to waste money if i screw something up. do you think if i switch the polarity on the wireless remotes it will still work? i have 2 of these, but i can reuturn them if you dont think it will work.
