So after watching 'Faceoff' tonight, got the idea for a scarecrow. I want to do a bird-man tied to a cross. I did a quick sketch to give an idea of what I mean. I want it to have a human body (bony almost skeleton like) wasting away with bird qualities such as the skull and talon type hands. For now I am thinking somewhat of a bird deity look with a tattered shirt and robe body with birds all around it. Anyone see anything done like this?

I did a somewhat similar thing with my harpy tree this year, but not exactly what your describing. Do it!

I dig the idea, and that reference Allen H gave is spectacular!
The only thing that I would slightly suggest is to possibly de-emphasize the cross that it would be tied to. Your sketch makes it look a little too..... you know. *sigh* I hate having to suggest crap like that, but it's probably best to always keep that stuff in mind.
I've noticed that Pumpkinrot tends to keep the hands of his scarecrows in toward the body a little more to avoid any (likely not all) friction. I think you'd be fine with them out a little more, just be sure the structure he's tied to doesn't have a crucifix look to it.

At weddings, my Aunts would poke me in the ribs and cackle "You're next!". They stopped when I started doing the same to them at funerals.

That will make an amazing prop. I really like his talons, creepy.

I'd have to agree. Personally I think it's fantastic, but it could cause you some issues and work against you if it's too close to you-know-who.
People will look for any excuse to cause a fuss.
I think they need a better hobby!
The afore-mentioned bird skull prop is awesome! Add that to your birds all around him and I really think you've hit on something here. Looking forward to seeing your progress and the finished product!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I appreciate the feedback and do get what your saying. To me, the arms out are integral to this for two reasons. One, the atypical scarecrow has the arms outstretched, it is the classic position. Two, I want it to have kind of a broken wing look with the feathers coming of the arm. I have further ideas that I will try to re accomplish with another sketch. I did some looking at other scarecrows and got the idea of de-emphasizing the middle pole so it is more of a t then a cross and making it smaller sized lumber. Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to make some adjustments to the sketch!

I'd say you have an excellent idea in the works. I can't wait to see this one take shape

I revised my sketch to go more with what I want as well as playing down the religious overtones a bit. I am seriously thinking about doing the bones in black instead of typical white/bone color. Traditional torn clothes, but that is all that is traditional. Will use more of a branch for stand rather than a cross so to speak.
