I like the first one a lot better, with all the bones showing it looks to human. As far as someone viewing it with religious overtones, that's THEIR problem and if you start building to please others it will take away from your pleasure.

A solid black will be hard to see at night unless you have a ton of light on it. In my opinion too much light will destroy any prop...Imagination is our friend.

I love this idea and I'm in the design stage on a few scarecrows with movement

You do have some good points. I was thinking about movement in the head. Let me know what you are doing for your scarecrows with movement, would love to hear about it.

    I think it's great!

I do like the body of the first one better, too, though. It looks more "birdie".

At weddings, my Aunts would poke me in the ribs and cackle "You're next!". They stopped when I started doing the same to them at funerals.

I think the second one would work very well with some more avian seletal elements as opposed to so human. More rounded rib cage, more pronounced breastplate (birds have more muscles attach there), shortened legs, narrower shoulder. Not much, mind you, just little tweaks. This would help the whole thing look 'off'. I think you wouldn't want to go full skeletal, though, more mummified to make the feathers still being attached make sense.

Very cool. I think it would look good. Can't wait to see pictures.
Why are you afraid of zombies anyway? They only eat brains, so you're safe

Very unique and creepy idea. What if the arm bars went up almost like a Y shape. It would be a new cross shape and be fitting for a bird creature.

BRIMSTONE - I must say what an interesting concept. I like it in a most peculiar kind of way. My one suggestion is on the bone color: black would be hard to see - details would be hard to tell with spotlights, and too much light would defeat the purpose. Maybe grey? with a red-ish streaked look to suggest not all the blood is gone from the bone? Anyway, keep us posted with the progress...HM

Gotta make one more comment before I go - make his stand HOWEVER YOU WANT! Scarecrow posts are a regional thing, NOT a religious thing. In Kansas where a huge melting pot of people settled, you would and still will find a wide diversity of scarecrow mounts - crosses, tees and some just straight posts. Y's and X's too. What makes your Scarecrow scene complete in your mind, is what you need to use. I am a FIRM believer in Christ, and am NOT the least bit offended. HM

I love this idea! I saw something very similar on "Face Off" earlier this week. I took some screen caps. I figured it might give you some ideas.
