Well stated Mr. Chicken! It's a great resource.
I don't think that every day is Halloween.... I think every week is the week before Halloween.

    Whew... now that's creepy.

    '11 Pumpkin Headed Sentinel Build

At weddings, my Aunts would poke me in the ribs and cackle "You're next!". They stopped when I started doing the same to them at funerals.

I built one a few years ago (not with the moving head though - that's really cool)

I based mine partially on the build here http://www.hauntershangout.com/home/santahangman.asp

Basically a wiper motor moves the legs up & down. For the the head to move, the armature woud need to be integrated to a joint in the neck, I would imagine.

The one we built came from
    Haunted Highland Manor

    Had this diagram

We did use a higher torque windshield wiper motor, and ran it from a jump box to ensure full Amperage.

Only bad thing about running it that hard was it snapped the leg lever twice in one night, but the kicking was worth it.

I hope some of you realize.. some people will become very upset seeing such a display. Besides it illustraiting a very nasty death (frpom someone else's doing) Blacks often see this as aimed at them personally because of the bad history with such murders purpitraited upon their own people .
Some have been told by City Governments to take down such displays when visible from a public street or highway.

I am aware of that and I almost did not make mine due to that reason. However my take is that my hanging dude is clearly an anglo saxon zombie being contained by a rope (and it's inside the haunt). I've only received positive comments on the prop.
While the act of 'violence' with hanging and the stigma attached to the atrocities done in the south are issues that are real and should not be forgotten (lest we repeat the past), this is just a goofy prop and I don't think too much should be read into it.
I think that some sensitivity should be shown to some comercial props I've seen that depict women stabbed, mutilated and dissected. That could trigger alarm bells about violence toward women, which is a real and present problem as well. For me when I see those props, I don't feel favorable towards them, and I don't think I would incorporate them (even if I could afford them).

I have had a couple negative comments from some 'religious' neighbours, but you can never keep everyone happy, so it's better to not even try.

Thank you Gym for posting your concern and feed back. That though never even occoured to me. Never in a million years would I intend to offend anyone, but I suppose someone can be offended by anything in any display. I am a "religious" person and don't see any problem with a prop like that. I plan, and have always planned on building mine to hang from the feet.

How about some feed-back from this: I was in a Kinkos, met a man copying a blueprint of his haunt for the inspector, his haunt was just a small old barn in his theme park, he bought this really solid 1909 barn 20 by 30 feet? for $5.00 from a Farmer who really wanted to sell it, get it off of his place because his Nephew had hung himself in it.
The guy then told me that he was going to build a "Hanging Man" display to put in this ill-fated building!
It would be jerking, twitching going through all the motions for everyone's entertainment.
